The stretch of the Canal that falls into Hungerford Branch’s ‘area of interest’ is from Kintbury in the east to Great Bedwyn in the west. The River Dun parallels the Canal from Kintbury, through Hungerford and onwards across Freeman’s Marsh, a large open nature reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. From Froxfield, the canal climbs steadily through open farmland towards the villages of Little and Great Bedwyn.
The main activity of the Hungerford Branch is the running of the trip boat ‘The Rose of Hungerford’, which operates public and charter trips from the Wharf close to the bridge that crosses the canal at the bottom of High Street in Hungerford. The Branch is also active in the Hungerford Chamber of Commerce, the Hungerford Town Council, and participates in local events such as the famous Hungerford Victorian Extravaganza. The Branch is also involved in ARK, “Action for the River Kennet”, a group of people who care about the River Kennet, who want to see this valuable chalk stream protected.

How to find us
The Rose of Hungerford is based in Canal Walk just off Hungerford High Street (A338). Post code RG17 0EQ. There is limited roadside parking in Canal Walk but there are public car parks in Church Street and in the Station Car Park, both of which are approximately 5-10 minutes walk away.
As Canal Walk is a cul-de-sac, coaches are strongly advised to drop off their passengers and then park on the road leading through Charnham Park Industrial Estate where there is designated coach parking.
The Rose of Hungerford is operated by volunteers for the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust operates three other Trip Boats together with the Bruce Branch boats.
